Embedded technical leadership
Fractional CTO engagement
A Fractional CTO works inside the operating system: close enough to make technical decisions, set guardrails, and leave ownership stronger than it started.
Start with the situationOperational CTO remains Oleg's person-level identity. Fractional CTO describes this engagement model and its decision rights.
How the engagement works
The mandate names the decisions Oleg can make, the decisions that stay with the client, and the internal owner for each operating area.
- Join the operating cadence where technical choices are made.
- Hold only the decision rights written into the mandate.
- Work with product, engineering, security, and executive owners without becoming a shadow reporting line.
- Keep decisions and operating artifacts visible so the team can challenge and retain them.
Fractional, advisory, or full-time
Advice fits when the client already owns the operating loop and needs an outside view. Fractional work fits when decisions must be made and carried into delivery.
- Choose advisory-only help for periodic review without embedded decision rights.
- Choose a Fractional CTO when the business needs operating authority now but has not established a permanent executive mandate.
- Choose a Full-time CTO when permanent executive ownership, organisational leadership, and a long horizon belong in one role.
An 8–12-week initial continuation
The first continuation is long enough to establish a working cadence and short enough to expose dependency early.
- Set a narrow operating mandate after the Activation Sprint or an equivalent fit review.
- Review authority, progress, and remaining risk at agreed checkpoints.
- Name the internal owner who will keep each retained practice running.
- Renew only when the next boundary is explicit. Permanent dependency is not the design.
Handoff starts on day one
Every useful decision should survive the person who made it.
- Record why the decision was made and what would invalidate it.
- Put the artifact where the team already works.
- Transfer the operating cadence and escalation path to an internal owner.
Describe the mandate you need
Send the current constraint, the decisions that lack an owner, and the internal counterpart. A fit response comes before any engagement choice.
